The famous photo of Venerable Ledi Sayadaw, which I’m pretty sure was published by Goenka’s related org, shows a bad attempt to “airbrush” the mālā beads out. We all noticed it back in the day. Perhaps the bad airbrush was a deliberate message.
It was difficult to find the black and white one I remember. The 1999 version from the archive does not load. So below are 3 pictures.
