2 posts were split to a new topic: “tantric” and Burmese teachings
I also forgot to mention that the “persecution” of this system is greatly exaggerated that is of course until the barbarities of the Khmer Rouge.
I’d like to share a quote from an otherwise excellent article tracing 3 lineages from Ayutthaya:
“…there is limited detail of Don’s biography in mainstream Thai literature. This is because Don was Sangharat when Prince Mongkut was establishing and promoting the Thammayut. Mongkut sought to limit the influence of Don and the Mahanikay, and this had an impact on the creation of records of Don’s life and practice.” (Pg 240 footnote 40.)
Yes that meddling kid of a moderniser limiting records of the old fashioned Sangharaja (presumably an absolute monarch can do more than limit records…) because of his reform movement.
However, earlier on the same page, we find Sangharaja Don “…was the second son of King Ekathat of Ayutthaya…” as if this isn’t the blindingly obvious reason to limit his influence…

Other than that an excellent article though.
