Without ultimate control, there is no free will; however, what does the Theravāda (orthodox) tradition of Buddhism state about causality, determinism, or, i.e., fate?
No, nothing gets transferred at all.
Memories (even if not remembering, but the potential to remember), ignorance, 5 faculties level, attainments, some personalities, kamma, etc does get transferred. According to observations from the suttas and past life evidence cases.
All of them are of course impermanent, conditioned and therefore not self.
Buddha was a Hedonist. Am I wrong?
I would say you are wrong, yes.
I believe the Buddha was the ultimate Hedonist, as he desired to eradicate all suffering and succeeded.
I suppose it depends how you define hedonism. Usually it is about indulging in sense pleasures, so not something the Buddha’s do.
Can I, as an upāsaka, buy an alms bowl for myself to eat from it?
I have heard other upāsakas say that’s a no-no, but, to be sure, I wanted to put my query here.
I find myself drawn to eating from an alms bowl for some reason. Maybe it’s kamma.
You can’t use the bowl wearing a monk’s robe without being ordained. It would cause you troubles if you want to ordain in the future.
Are you going to beg for food with the bowl? Or use it to eat at home?
I will use it to eat at home only. But bhante advises against it.
“It is not recommended to use a monk’s bowl without being ordained.”
What is the kammic result of someone imprecating someone else with perpetual rebirth in saṃsāra?
It’s a strong curse but of course no one can make another stay on samsara- we do that ourselves.
Possibly worse than that is the person who gently wishes someone to end samsara but unknowingly teaches a wrong path to them.
