Orthodox Theravada Website

The website for orthodoxtheravada.org is now live.
There are plans for the future. Right now we have mostly stub pages. The thumbnail needs some work too.
It will serve as a landing page to promote this website as well as a resource page for those who like Orthodox Theravada. The resources here at Classical Theravada are all scattered and I think this will fill part of the gap to consolidate the material.
I’m very excited about this and kudos to @RobertK for going out and buying the domain.

Excellent. Just one thing: AI drawings are very easy to recognize and leave a rather unpleasant impression. It would still be worthwhile to make a human-like drawing for the main page (I’m referring to the Dhamma wheel).

Feel free to find a good logo… or we can also use the same logo as CT and TPR

The website was just redone. Take a peek.

We will need help to make a resource page that is organized and well thought out… but the main thing is to get a link and description for each one.

The website is actually hosted for free on GitHub using Jekyll. With AI, the technical barriers are removed for modifying and making it modern. Normally you have to pay for a theme… but we can modify a standard theme easily with AI.

It is impressively useful already, many good resources..:slightly_smiling_face:

I’d like to see some refined and curated articles, with some of those articles being fresh and new, but some composed from new findings in discussions found here at CT.
However, not a cut-and-paste job… but rather a fresh article based on a discussion, free from dialogue and containing only info.
Then we can link back to the original discussion.

New logo.. ai gen, but should be cleaner standard logo artwork.

This is much better and more stylish!

Editors needed for glossary.
Does anyone have free time?

You can now get lost in the glossary section due to internally linking to all or most other terms in the glossary. But we need editors to help link external sources, verify and expand what we have.

Mobile view is less than ideal. Text over an image like that isn’t easy to read.

I don’t know if you are interested in that kind of feedback

The content is what matters. I will fix that later when I get more time.
Probably just remove how much text gets put on the banner.

The website is using Jekyll framework. You can change the theme and everything changes. But I’ll probably just change the picture and the way it is displayed.
It is funny because if I got rid of the “banner” people would just say it is too plain.

In any case, it can be changed later, and I’m aware of those small issues that geometrically sit higher than the content. However, I don’t give a higher importance to that issue than the need to verify the content. The website has 700 pages that are useful and fit in the orthodox classical Theravada paradigm.

It would be best to help me verify the content instead of talking about how a logo looks. Join the team and then after we verify the pages, we can worry about the logo.

Does not matter to me.. but since people complain and I have the tools to change it.. Now it is changed.

Looks nice. The brown look more “monkly” than the black.

How can I help verify them dear Venerable Sir?

There are 397 files in the glossary. I have created a google sheets to systematically verify each file.
You will need to edit the file, insert the word verified at the top line.
The sources need to be checked.
There should be a section called ### Quote
This has a quote. We only need one quote per file. It should go just above the sources section.
If you are interested more, you will need to make a github account and also send me a private email. you can find my email on About | American Monk

Dear Venerable Sir, Thank you for the instructions. I have just sent you a private email with my GitHub details so we can get started.

Just to let you know, while I am not a programmer, I am somewhat familiar with Google Sheets, basic HTML, and markdown formatting. I hope I can handle the systematic verification, source checking, and file edits as you outlined.

Looking forward to your guidance on the next steps!

That is enough. The website that you will edit are all Markdown MD files.
It is best to use ai to format the quotes.
I have a running thread to format my quotes to fit the format.
You need two trailing spaces to make a new line in MD.

The difficult part will be with using git.
Even i’m not familiar with git and I have been using it for a long time. Use AI for git, but be careful.!!!
I sent other instructions in a private email response.

By having the website edited and with new labels up top, it will signal to google that his is human edited and should score very well on google search in six months when we finish.
