An interesting phenomenon is the case of Nanavira, an English Bhikkhu of the 20th century whose unusual beliefs still come up occasionally on forums.

What I see, skimming Nanavira’s rather dense arguments, is that for him a vital issue is existential anxiety.
However, the Buddha explained the issue is this prison of saṃsāra, repeated birth, aging, and death. Existential anxiety may be a problem, but it is far from the main scope of paṭiccasamuppāda.
Anyway, Bodhi gives an exceptional and thorough examination, well worth the study.
