How does seeing future lives work in detail?

Is it any different from recollecting past lives? The future hasn’t happened yet so how does one see the future? Do they see it simply by inclining their mind to the future through the power of Samadhi? Do they see it by contemplating the results of the actions they do in this life and seeing what results those actions will produce based on the dependent origination? If one can see future lives, can they also accurately know what will happen like 5 minutes later after the current moment?

I’d imagine its probably a similar experience to remember past lives, but the Buddha tended to be very scant about telling the future compared to the past. He was also often said “If he had __ instead of __ then ___”, so this suggests there isn’t a fixed future the enlightened see, but one dependent on the codependent origination of things.
