I was accused of stealing a mobile phone because I had been there the previous day. They said the phone had gone missing since then. I told them, “I can’t prove that I didn’t steal it. Do whatever you want—beat me or trust me—but I didn’t take it. I have no way to prove my innocence.”
They then said that I would have to pay ₹17,000, the cost of the phone. I replied that I couldn’t pay.
While they were still accusing me, the phone was miraculously found in the very same place where they had been looking. It had been missing for more than a day and was found at that exact moment.
I feel that God helped me. Perhaps it was the power of mettā, dāna, and sharing merits with all beings.
Despite there is no one “God” who might had helped you - there are devas, gods, angels however we would name them - good beings around - who’s own goodness (which made them gods) resonate with our good deeds. Your own honesty and good deeds are like a magnet and they help such people.
I go for Pindapata every day, sometimes on a very taff narrow road. The traffic in Sri Lanka can be merciless.
I walk very mindful. Over the years it happened many times that I just stepped some centimetres aside without reason or knowing why - and that moment a car, bike, bus or a lorry passed me, striving just the robe (civara) …it would run me over - sometimes without even noticing it…
I have no doubts about help from somewhere beyond.
Also, most recently, some monks have noted to me that my robes were getting faded. So after some time, during one of our lunches, I inquired with the monk in charge how I could get the dye and the supplies to dye my robes. He told me that we had a big pot and dye, but it would be difficult to get wood for the fire. As we were washing our dishes from that same lunch, the monk in charge came up to me and congratulated me on my pāramī. He said that a man just called, “out of the blue” and asked if any robes needed dyeing. It was 30 minutes later at most… maybe 10 minutes later that he called. We all asked him if anyone told him, but he said it was his own idea to call and ask.
