Donation and meditative States

So I found one reference in which I read about topmost lay follower of buddha …

I don’t remember his name …
But sutta state that.

In privious birth he has been in contact with one buddha and after seeing top most lay followers of that buddha …he made grand donation and wish for the same …that’s why in present buddhas time … after learning dhamma from buddha he instantly became sotapanna …

So donation might lead to liberation…

In pa auk texts …pa auk also mentioned that some people get benifits and see progress in there meditation after donation, for some it’s observing shila, for someone it’s about more and more practice, etc. …

These things and much much more are mentioned at length in the Patthana under pakatūpanissaya.

To give a small example, Saddha can also become a upanissaya for Jhana, Vipassana, Magga etc.

saddhaṃ upanissāya dānaṃ deti, sīlaṃ samādiyati, uposathakammaṃ karoti, jhānaṃ uppādeti, vipassanaṃ uppādeti, maggaṃ uppādeti…

Donation itself cannot lead to liberation. However, it can be a supporting factor of merit and making a wholesome mind. It also puts one closer to monks where the anumodana talks can happen. There are many factors associated with the qualities of one who donates and the sobhana cetasikas (beautiful mental factors). They are of 19 factors plus wisdom if one pays attention to cause and effect. A real donor always pays attention to cause and effect. A real donor who knows cause and effect will also follow morality because they know the effects of good and bad morality.

So in this way, there are many contributing factors for concentration and insight when one is a proper donor and donates.
