Does drinking totally non-alcoholic drinks (0.0% ABV) break the fith sīla? No?
In the European Union, a drink can be labeled as “alcohol-free” if it contains no more than 0.05% ABV. But the thing is, it still contains alcohol.
It’s more lax in the USA. The FDA considers a drink to be “non-alcoholic” if it contains less than 0.5% ABV.
Some drinks, like juice or soda, may contain tiny amounts of alcohol due to natural fermentation processes or contamination. (Less than 0.1% ABV, but still contains alcohol)
Due to the above, I don’t even feel safe about drinking cranberry juice anymore and even sodas like Coca-Cola.
I don’t think we should go for such extreme…
Alcohol which cause intoxication should be avoided…like high amount
We discussed this in class in regards to bottled and safe for kids kombucha. Basically, we can take the government standards what is safe for children to buy. However, some home brew forms of kombucha does not meet this regulation and cannot be drunk.
As for non-alcoholic versions of alcoholic beverages, such as alcohol free beer. It is best not to drink these since it is developing a habit that is close to drinking real alcoholic drinks and crossing the line is easy in this life or next.
