This was posted on Dhammawheel today and is a not uncommon belief among some Buddhists.
We can discuss it here.
Burgs call it the dhammakaya. The awareness.
But he is clear to say that it is not nibbāna. Perhaps this is a good way to acknowledge the personal experiences of people practising those and still point them to the right view of what nibbāna is.
Add on, just to be clear, of course, whatever they experienced it is still impermanent, suffering and not self. It’s the wrong view that made them unable to recognise consciousness as it really is.
Yes.
Great to see you back here Venerable.
We should always think in terms of classical orthodox theravāda.
I think what is happening is that someone is taking a paramattha and generalizing it, taking the general characteristic (concept), and therefore pushing it into a paññatti which does not change. Nibbāna and paññatti both do not change.
Can this be done? I guess so.
We can do it with earth kasina, but earth itself is a paramattha.
However, I have never seen this done before in this way.
