Article on Lists found in Buddhism

Same underlying theme as always… You need to know the abhidhamma and commentaries to know what the lists mean and it is a wholistic system.

One of our members, David, wrote a book on lists…

There seems to be an online edition. I will be adding the free link to my article.
It looks like a fantastic book @DhammaWiki

Thanks Robert & Bhante!

I don’t advertise it on Amazon anymore since it’s free and available online, so I’d recommend not putting any Amazon link as it usually goes to re-sellers trying to sell it for high profit since it’s no longer in hard copy print edition.

I recommend you changing to a cc-by-nc and placing on archive.org … Also you can add a jpeg to the pdf archive and it will show up when people link to it as well. You can also open source the text and let people add to it on github.

If you are not afraid of chatGPT, read this poem it made in less than 10 seconds. It can be improved and the first one was not as good. I simply told it “try again” and it gave me this which was completely different, yet the same theme and content.

I really like the choice of “Eightfold Path to walk the right lane.” although I’m not sure it really knew how good that was.

Buddhism’s teachings come in lists,
Each one a guide to find what fits.
Four Noble Truths to ease our pain,
Eightfold Path to walk the right lane.

The Five Aggregates make up our being,
Three Poisons keep us from seeing.
Six Senses help us sense the world,
Four Foundations of Mindfulness, a jewel unfurled.

Ten Kusala Kamma for wholesome deeds,
Five Precepts to help us with our needs.
Nine Questions for novice monks to ponder,
Three Characteristics to help us wander.

In Buddhism, the lists abound,
Each one a jewel to be found.
A roadmap to our inner quest,
To find peace and be at our best.

I would change :
Buddhism’s teachings come in lists,
Each one a guide to find what fits.
Four Noble Truths to make us sane,
Eightfold Path to walk the right lane.

The Five Aggregates make up our being,
Three Poisons keep us from seeing.
Six Senses help us sense the world,
Four Foundations of Mindfulness, a jewel unfurled.

Ten Kusala Kamma for wholesome deeds,
Five Precepts for preventing kammic seeds..
Nine Questions to ponder and reflect,
Three characteristics to help us introspect.

In Buddhism, the lists abound,
Each one a jewel to be found.
A roadmap to our inner quest,
To find peace and and reach The Best.

Note: reflect and introspect (vipassana) were rewritten by CGPT in ~4 tries
