# Realms according to Theravada

To enter the stream of Noble Eightfold Path, that is, to attain _Sotāpanna_ (often called Stream Enterer), there are **four conditions**. The four requirements for someone to attain the _Stāpanna_ stage of _Nibbāna_ are as stated: “_Cattārome, bhikkhave, dhammā bhāvitā bahulīkatā sotā­patti­phala­sacchi­kiriyāya saṃvattanti. Katame cattāro? **Sap­purisa­saṃ­sevo, saddham­mas­savanaṃ, yoniso­ma­nasikāro, dhammā­nu­dhammap­paṭi­patti** _ ”.

**First condition** : _sappurisasaṃsevo =_ _sappurisa_ + _saṃsevo =_ noble person + associating = **associating with a noble person**. This noble person has been wrongly mistaken as _kalyāna mittā_ referring to good friend but should be good **noble** friend.

**Second condition** : _saddhammassavana =_ _saddhamma + savana =_ true _dhamma_ + hearing = **hearing the true _dhamma_ (with correct meaning for some concepts, example _anicca_, _dukkha_, and _anattā_) from the associated noble person**. While reading (the true _dhamma_) is enough to get to the _Sotāpanna Anugāmi_ (or _Cūḷa Sotāpanna_) stage (path/_magga_), hearing is necessary to attain the _Sotāpanna_ stage (fruition/_phala_).

**Third condition** : act with _yonisomanasikāro =_ _yoni + so + manasikāro_ = origin + oneself + with this in mind = **act with the origin [refers to origin of _bhava_ (existence) and origin of _jāti_ (birth)] of oneself in mind** (meaning understanding and follow the process of _Paṭicca Samuppāda_ [those twelve factors lead to whole mass of suffering, with understanding of true dhamma, slowly stop these twelve factors from arising and end suffering!] with the understanding from **Second condition** of true dhamma).

**Fourth condition** : _dhammā­nu­dhammap­paṭi­patti =_ _dhamma + a­nu­ + Dhamma + ­paṭi­patti_ = true _dhamma_ one follows + according to + Buddha Dhamma + practice, or ‘pursuance’ of the teaching = **practice the true _dhamma_ one follows according to the Buddha Dhamma**.
